Flower queen!
Great news!! 3.15 this morning I was woken by Frank jumping on me and purring loudly in my ear! I had a feeling he was coming home last night when I went to bed, and Mr U&L had left the front room door open, so he would be able to come straight upstairs if he did. He was hungry, and a bit scared, but otherwise unscathed, and very happy for me to spend all morning fussing him.
Later I went to a local chalk down land nature reserve to look for Fly orchids, which despite looking everywhere I just couldn't find. I did however see lots of Common spotted orchids including this one with a resident crab spider Misumena vatia living in it's flower head.
Although this spider is yellow they are able to change their colour over a few days so I think she may soon be white with tiny pink splodges, and fade into her background much better. I noticed in another shot there was a tiny male spider also lurking on the same orchid flower, no doubt hopeful he might get to mate her!
