Diary of an Edinburgher

Lisbon Day Four

A wee bit of lie in - it's exhausting being on holiday, though I must say, sitting on trams, boats and buses is definitely my idea of sight-seeing.

We did the two remaining trips of our three day pass. We went out round Belém again on a tram, then hopped on a bus to do a bit more of the area, then back to the wee tram. We've been so lucky with linking up the transport, as lots of time can be wasted waiting.

Oh, I love these trams. The one this morning had a tapestry ceiling. Though a tram had broken down just ahead as we came home, and we all had to get off, but it was handy for us. I think they break down all the time and of course nothing else can move till it's fixed.

This afternoon we walked up a wee steep street to check out where we're to be picked up for a day trip to Sintra tomorrow. We discovered another beautiful square with a wonderful statue in the centre. We passed a super wine bar with vaulted ceiling cleverly lined with green wine bottles. Well, we didn’t pass it, we went in and had a drink. We stopped in a wee coffee bar on the way down - the waiter was from Nepal! I've only had two custard tarts today, one in the top front seat of the bus. So far...

We're back at the apartment, having a wee rest, before heading up the hill for a meal tonight with 'free' Fado entertainment, which should be fun. But there will be NO sardines.

EDIT: Well, we had a 'Fado' evening... it was an experience...
