Touch of the sea
Trev acting the goat at Mapua Wharf. Two frames have been decorated by local school children, works of art in themselves. The first is facing where the aquarium used to be. It was burnt down by an arsonist in 2011 and all the fish with it. No one was ever charged for the crime. One turtle was the sole survivor. The frame is a commemoration of a time before a lot of change at the wharf.
The extra is further over and you can get many views across the wharf and the estuary if someone doesn't poke their nose in.
We were looking for the kotuku but it didn't appear. To console ourselves we had coffee and muffins at the Jellyfish Restaurant/Cafe. A really sunny sparkling day.
Around the corner at Grossi Point I tried my SX60 on monopod at full zoom to see what birds were attending the feeding frenzy about 500 metres offshore. There was Mr Heron with shags and gulls and goodness knows what else.
While we were away someone called with flounders for our tea and later in the afternoon we went and caught up with nieces, gt nieces, husbands and gt nephew. A very pleasant day.
