Reaudition Masterclass

At her music school, they have to re audition every single year. And kids are asked to leave on the basis of their audition. It normally takes place in the easter holidays but was delayed so has been hanging over us for a long time. But today was the day.

We took a train to Leeds- and as we pulled out the station realised friends were on the train with us, which was a lovely surprise. They’d had problems getting the venue and ended up in the beautiful rooms of Opera North. It was very surreal as she ended up warming up in rooms just off the upper circle of the Leeds Grand Theatre, and we were sat waiting in the middle of the theatre goers. Her warm ups went well, and the accompanist said her audition went well- though Katie picked out every fault. The director told me (and to a lesser extent her) that she’d done great but with a couple of bits of useful feedback. The big benefit to the afternoon was the fantastic masterclass with a brilliant clarinet teacher. It was amazing to watch him transform their playing in a crazily short time. The room they used was stunning and Katie loved the Steinway concert grand she got to play on for her piano pieces. It’s been a really helpful and excellent afternoon. The panel teacher said she’s got a lot of potential to be very good, and gave her some very useful ways she can get further along with that. A couple of weeks wait to find out her results but she’s done great! Well done little monkey.
