The Curragh Of Kildare......!!

As we drove home having collected our daughter from the train in Kildare town....I took this quick pic as we drove a long one side of the Curragh Racecourse....it’s quite famous as it hosts the Irish Derby every year...
This is just a tiny, tiny bit of the Curragh...and in the distance on the right hand side of the pic is the water tower and Church spire on the Curragh Army Camp now a main training area for the Irish Army..
The Curragh is an open public Plains which cannot be fenced in and it’s alleged origin is....that St Brigid (patron Saint of County Kildare) asked the local government could she have enough land to build a church and convent near Kildare Town and she was told that she could have as much as her cloak would cover so she spread out her cloak and it covered the area of the Curragh as we know it today...it hosts the Racecourse, the Army Camp, a golf club and the National School that I attended as a child...the land is also rented to farmers to graze sheep and there are some wild goats!!
It was a wonderful place to grow up where we had the freedom to play and were safe....!!
And of course I wasn’t driving when I took this pic........!
Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday and I’m off to Bloom in the Park in Dublin....yay..!
