Cuckoo's Nest.
This house or houses originated in the 17th century when a pack horse route nearby went from Bingley to Halifax. It is on the edge of our village where there is another of a similar age.
It has the evocative name of 'Cuckoo's Nest'.
A friend's husband's family was brought up here and barely two miles away is one that looks almost identical and is the place where I was brought up.
We crossed in front of it this morning through a meadow of knee high grass and flowers so it was quite difficult to make out the path through to the woods. The building is on the very edge of the St Ives Estate. It's the only picture I took on today's walk.
Just minutes before we were crossing the village cricket and football fields also edging on to the Estate and to our great surprise my neighbour D spotted a deer in the long grass. We watched it for a little while and as it turned to run away into the woods we got a wonderful glimpse of a very small young fawn, complete with spots, so we reckon very young.
These things are the highlights of our early walks. We did a circuit which took us past the Woodpecker's nest again. Lots of noise from within but no sign of the adults this time. We didn't have time to hang around as we were all heading down to sing with 'All Together Now' the Bingley Community singing group.
A great start to the week.
