Kath's Journal

By Kathb

I went out for a walk at Cockersands and alongside the River Lune today. There are many wildflowers around, and I am trying to learn more about them. Yesterday, I was told that this little plant is called Birdsfoot trefoil and there was plenty of it around today too. It is called this because its seed pods look like bird’s feet.

It is also referred to as eggs and bacon as the flowers are the colour of egg yolk whilst the bud is reddish. To me some of the little flowers look very yellow, especially in full sun,  whilst others look orange.
