Land Ahoy!
Just as English land comes into view, the sun manages to break through; the whole journey has been uniformly grey with low visibility. Thankfully, also pretty smooth, both felt just a little seasick last night. Journey about 28.5 hours, speed around 21 knots.
This ferry is an économie one, not many options by the time I bought our tickets, so wondered what it would be like. But it's perfectly good enough - no posh restaurant, but a self-service with several good options - we had roast beef last night, and fish and chips for lunch. Food is expensive, note to self, bring more of your own next time. Also a bar, a café, and a shop, selling food, books, magazines, and duty-free.
The name: Baie de Seine, 10 decks, capacity for 600 passengers, 60 crew and 160 cars, some of which, including ours, stay out on the open deck. Our cabin had a porthole, and an en-suite with shower, again, perfectly adequate.
About another hour to go... will go pack.
PS Tried several times to upload this, eventually gave up and doing it now from my very comfortable bed in our very own house - so grateful to be here, for Mike's driving yet again, and for Paul who waited up for us and has stocked the kitchen with all the basics, even down to chia seeds and frozen red fruits for our kefir. And to whoever made up our bed. And for a bath. And did I say, our very own bed, so grateful...
