Clouded Yellow Butterfly
Day Three and a day for a rest. We haven't quite done what the rest of the guests of the hotel have done, which has been to sit around the pond and swim. We've sat in the shade so that I could draw this morning, followed by lunch and a nap and then a trip out to see what butterflies and flowers I could spot. We didn't go very far, only around to the back of the hotel where the neglected tennis courts are and where there is a sign that says 'nature path'. And pretty good it was. There was a patch of buttercups that were attracting these Clouded Yellows and some Meadow Browns. The Clouded Yellows seem always to be on the move so I was lucky to get this one. The Meadow Browns stop more to feed bt tend to hide behind grass stalks. I also spotted a 'Comma' hanging around one of the shrubs so have got it as a record. There were also a few pyramid orchids scattered in the grass but unfortunately they were dying off around the bottom. It's been very hot today and the first day when the skies have stayed a clear blue.
