Orvieto Duomo
We've been on a hotel excursion today to Orvieto, which we really enjoyed and we met a lovely woman who was actually staying in Canalichio where we were originally booked to stay. It seems we may have been displaced because of a 'shooting' convention. We need to have words! It appears that the two hotels are very closely linked as we've met staff here who were in Canalichio last year.
Anyway enough of that, we are sat in the shade in the hotel grounds having just finished a beer and the internet is so much stronger here than in our room. Hence my longer waffle!
As well as a visit to the cathedral we went to the underground caves which were excavated in medieval times for building materials for houses and which in turn became wine stores, olive presses and among other things places to rear pigeons for meat. Fascinating! I think the best of our visits today and the young woman who led our tour was fantastic (I don't usually like guided tours.) A great day out.
