Ladybird, ladybird

"Ladybird, ladybird,"
BY MOTHER GOOSE
Ladybird, ladybird,
Fly away home,
Your house is on fire
And your children all gone;
All except one
And that's little Ann,
And she has crept under
The warming pan.

This is a well known (but rather grim) little poem from childhood.. still don't really understand how it could have come about.   I do love these little creatures and for a change this is a 7 spot... they used to be common but I rarely see them now, much more often I see the harlequin ladybirds which are slowly finishing off these beauties.  I spotted this one scrambling about in a cow parsley plant along with three others.
