Postcard from Cadaques
Postcard from Cadaques to all my Blip friends.
Having a great holiday, wish you were here!
1st photo top left......View of Cadaques. Top right....The painting done by Salvador Dali of this same view.
Mid. Left ...View of the town from the other side of the bay.
Mid. Right.......Salvador Dali's house in Port Lligat.
Bottom Left.....The church of Santa Maria de Cadaques
middle .... The little street full of bougainvilleas, and the restaurant where we had lunch.
Mid right......The two silver heads on the top of Dali's house.
Bottom right......one of the hundreds of yellow ribbons throughout the town , in support of Freedom for Catalan Political Prisoners.
We started the day with an hours ride on the little train from Cadaques round the headland, in and out of the coves, to Port Lligat and back.
A very narrow bumpy road, but great views. I can understand why Dali loved this area so much.
Then a walk round the town. A stop for coffee and some people watching. Especially enjoyed seeing a Dutch couple parking their Aston Martin in a very narrow garage under a house by the sea!
( Me envious????? Oh no!!!)
Then it was a walk through the narrow cobbled ( sort of) streets up to the church. ( Unfortunately closed, but a great view.)
Lunch was in a tiny restaurant we came across, down a narrow street full of Bougainvilleas, which look stunning against the white painted houses.
It was called El Gato Azul. The Cat.
Full of pictures and statues etc. of cats. Run by a lovely French couple. Aunt and Nephew. Great background jazz music, and the food was good too.
The back of the menu was a collage of old photos of film stars all taken holding cats. ( see extra)
Back now having a siesta before more eating and drinking tonight!
Weather hot, hot, hot and sunny, with a lovely breeze to cool you down.
Perfect.
Wish we were staying a bit longer, but back into France tomorrow.
