Lindos

Day two with the car and we drove to Lindos which is a lovely medieval town, with narrow cobbled streets which wind up the hilltop to the Acropolis.  There are quite big donkeys and mules which ferry people up and down to the Acropolis and are known as the Lindos Taxi.

We went up to the acropolis and I went inside while Alan sat in the shade and enjoyed the view - it was amazing and I’ve added some extras. The views weren’t bad either, but It was very hot up there, so I didn’t stay up there for long!  When we came down we found a lovely little Meze restaurant where we sat in a sheltered courtyard and had two chilled Fanta’s, a bowl of hummus and fresh bread.

We then left Lindos and set off to find Red Sand Beach which looks amazing, but there doesn’t seem a proper road to it, and we had to do a bit of Off-road driving through what looked like a Martian landscape, avoiding goats and donkeys!  We got as far as we could take the car and decided to walk, but we were still a long way above sea level so had to give up.  It was completely desolate with no-one around except a couple of German tourists who had had the same idea as us, and we left in convoy. I guess it’s only accessible by boat.

Once back at the hotel we had a glass of wine and then went for a swim before dinner.  It’s great because although there are 12 rooms that have access to the pool, hardly anyone uses it!

After dinner we went to a little Greek bar down at the beach.  It was really nice and very busy, so had a nice atmosphere and I think it will become our ‘local’ away from home.

Anyway, it’s another late one and it’s time for bed!
