Moving On
Time to move on today.
After packing up - and another dip in the pool - we headed up to Chateau Gaillard. Via Carrefour to pick up some supplies - baguettes Coulommiers cheese, celeriac remoulade (the reason I come to France!!!), pate, chicken flavoured crisps, cider, beer, semolina puddings (we seem to be addicted to them!), chocolate mousse, olives and St Agur cheese. Just some bits to keep us alive until dinner!!
It was so beautiful up at Chateau Gaillard. We're always blessed with glorious weather when we're there! We had our fabulous picnic on the hill opposite, overlooking the castle and the beautiful river Seine. The Little Misses took themselves off down the hill and had an adventure. They love the wilderness!!
Then we walked over to the castle and had a lovely time walking round and climbing on the ruins. There are flowers and butterflies everywhere and sensational views down to the river. Wonderful!!
Once we'd slogged back up to the hill to the car we set off cross country to the coast and the stunning Chateau de Martragny, our home for the next four nights.
On the way we tootled along the Cider Route stopped in Buevron en Auge which was been voted one of the prettiest villages in France. It is certainly one of the prettiest villages I've ever seen (see extras)
We got to the campsite at about 7.30pm and set up next to my mum and dad. The Little Misses found the swings, played a bit of badminton and boules, whinged and moaned about the length of time it took the BBQ to warm up enough to toast marshmallows, ate curry and rice and French bread for dinner, eventually toasted their marshmallows and then settled down to sleep.
When the whinging from Miss E reached unbearable shrillness I took myself off for a walk around the Chateau grounds. It all looked stunning in the setting sun.
That, the marshmallows, the beer and the amazing citronella candle we were burning all cheered me up!!
