When Fergus went to Gairloch
Forecast promised possibly the best weather day of the week, so we decided to drive South for a day in Gairloch. The drive round Little Loch Broom gives great views from the high points on the road over the Summer Isles (we saw the ferry again), then high mountains inland, and more good coastal views as Gruinard and Gairloch is approached. From Gairloch village there are great views of Skye.
I like to park by the Mountain Coffee Company (and Hillbillies Bookshop) and walk from there. The cafe itself can be a love or a hate thing, especially their 'big scone'. I like it. Definitely quirky. However, they have a sundeck where Fergus could be with us. The bookshop is really good.
We walked from there along the seafront to the beach by the golf course where Apothecary7 and Fergus went paddling for a while. Then we carried on to the harbour where we tried the dog friendly Coast Coffee Company for lunch. It was nice an cool inside and the food proved to be very good and the staff very friendly.
On the way back to the car we stopped at a little curio shop and purchased two old Spode plates with a blue transfer pattern called Camilla. We have been looking out for some nice old plates like these to use for lunches.
We enjoyed the drive back to Ullapool with a couple of stops to enjoy the views of Ben Mor Coigach and Beinn Ghoblach from a different perspective.
