York - Day 4
After an early start and a cooked breakfast, out on the road heading for the seaside, Whitby :). Some roadworks on the way, an interesting tour across the moors (1:5 decline at some points,) we arrived at the West Cliff car park. It was very blowy, but the sun was trying to shine (it had rained a bit on the way). Walked down to the beach - rows of beach huts, 168 in total! No one on the beach, lots of waves on the sea. Cafe stop, purchased a welcoming coffee (and an ice cream, well I’m at the seaside). Took the lift back up the cliff (60p each), worth every penny :). Back to the car after a short walk around and back across the moors (different way this time).
Arrived at Nunnington House and Gardens (another NT place). After a very nice lunch, a trip around the house. A lovely family home that although has been with the National Trust since 1950, has only taken on opening it fully up to the public after the tenant moved out in 1978 (house bequeathed to NT but to allow daughter to remain in the house as a tenant). The property has an organic garden, resident peacock (who would not perform) and a miniature collection (dolls house size). It also had some entries of the 2017 photographic exhibition (British Wildlife PhotographyAwards) - some stunning shots and you could see why they either were highly commended or won. Plenty to see, left there at 5 as it was closing.
Back at our accommodation, decided to eat early - went for the early bird meal, cheaper, less food on the plate, just about right (we’ll worth it, eating before 6:30pm).
Packing up tonight, ready for the journey home tomorrow.
Lovely trip to York - next time will go the Dales side to see what goes on there :)
