St Nicholas Sunrise

I was up just after 5am to watch and capture the sunrise over the ancient ruins and church of St Nicholas, Hersonissos (Star Beach)Crete.

I managed to open a very stiff wired gate to get into the fenced off ruins rather than climb over as I did last year and tear a hole in the bottom of my shorts! watching the sun rise was delightful.

The Early Christian Basilica of Agios Nikolaos is located east of Hersonissos town, at the site of the current church of St. Nicholas. The basilica of the 6th century had dimensions 50mx19m. It was decorated with a mosaic floor, part of which is visible.

We've spent the day around the pool and will be eating out tonight with our friends who have their last night here before flying home.
