Gargano (2)

We had intended to stay here for 2 days but we decided to move on because Jane wanted to see the Abruzzo national park.   It's quite refreshing to be away from the coast in the mountains.  

We are now on a simple rather hippy-ish site by the cable car up the Gran Sasso mountain which we we intend to go up tomorrow morning.  It is quite chilly here but lovely to be camped on a field of clover rather than the dust we have had for the past 3 weeks.

On our way here we passed a number of villages with lots of cranes over them.   This is the area that was severely damaged in the 2009 earthquake and repairs are very much still under way.

We are staying about 10 km from L'Aquila which was the epicentre for the magnitude 6.3 quake in 2009.   It almost flattened the town.  308 people were killed and 65,000 were made homeless.
