The mountain and the mole hill

We stayed in a campsite right by the funicular which took us up to this view of the Gran Sasso which is the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps.

We were cross when we stepped out of the cable car and discovered that there was a road up there and there was a car park full of wild camping motorhomes.   It would have been an amazing place to stay overnight and has an observatory.

We have driven back over the mountains and are now on the coast again near San Marino.   We had a short shower today as we came down out of  the mountains but they have had a deluge here as the campsite pitches are a quagmire in places.   We have found a relatively dry one which will do us for tonight.

Tomorrow we move on again to an area just south of the Dolomites (unless we change our plans again). After that we will take the shortest route back home which will probably involve Austria and Germany.
