Dunters

The local name for eider ducks is Dunters, but I grew up hearing them referred to as Cuddy's Ducks, having a mother from Northumberland.  Whatever you call them there are lots of them about at the moment, and lots of duckling too, growing apace.  Lovely to see so many on the bottom of the slip today, in the early morning sunshine.

It's been a terrific day.  Hot and still, with banks of cloud all around but not overhead.  Lots of flies too, big ones determined to get inside your glasses and your clothing, and clegs ( horseflies) too.  Got bitten a few times, while I was weeding so came in and took some antihistamine.

Mike's son came over for the day as he's up in Orkney at the moment.  Lovely to see him and have a catch up, and hear about academic life in Edinburgh.   Hastily thawed some chicken and made a casserole, adding some chorizo and smoked paprika, and conjured up a pudding involving fruit, yoghurt, amaretti biscuits and a bit of cream!  Mike and he were going to go out on the boat and stay aboard overnight, but tiredness has overcome them, so it's the sofa bed for Eoin!
