Manayunk Arts Festival

This 2-day, juried arts & crafts street fest is in its 29th year and is the tri-state areas largest, extended into some side streets. If you follow the white tent tops up the hill, you can see the throngs of people, busy but not unruly, quite polite.

There are many fabulous artisans, crafting in every imaginable (& sometimes unimaginable!) medium, producing items both decorative and/or with purpose; i.e. wood, pottery, stained glass, jewelry, paint, plastics, recycled, fabrics, etc etc etc.
I saw a booth full of small, beautifully-carved, wooden, hollow ‘logs’, each with a slight dip in the middle. It had a small narrow slot in the center top area. Its purpose; stand your music-playing cell phone in the slot and the log becomes a beautiful speaker - no wires, easy transport. (And no, sorry, no purchase. As much as I appreciated the artistry, I seldom use my phone to play music.)
The event is well-managed by police and community. It is blocked by fire engines at each end (no chance for errant cars). And there is a $4 round trip shuttle ride via big yellow school bus from a local parking yard; proceeds donated to a local community school.
It was a delightful afternoon with a good friend. I’m already looking forward to next year.
