Kath's Journal

Near miss ...

… but I like the bokeh. ( Needs more wing action and it's a pity that the dragonfly is at the wrong angle so that you can't see the width of the wings)

This is an early attempt at photographing a dragonfly in flight. I used manual focus and looked for dragonflies coming towards me. I found it very difficult to steady the camera and lens at the same time as focusing, following the dragonfly and pressing the shutter button. I must find the time to take my tripod to the lake and stay there for a while. I own an expensive tripod with gimbal head but rarely take it out or use it. It is neither use nor ornament.  Now is the time to take it for a spin. I bought the tripod its own special carrier a while ago, so that I could carry it on my back like a rucksack, but what use is it if it stays on your back!

I went to meet friends today for our usual Thursday afternoon walk, but as it was so hot out in the open, my friends suggested that we walk through the woods and round the lakes at Lytham Hall.  This was a good call. The walk was lovely and mostly in the shade.
