Certain phrases get bandied about, don't they? Like "all consuming passion", for example. In the end, they get used lightly and lose their impact and true meaning. But Dan really is consumed by music, to the extent that his effort grades - the only metric I really pay attention to - have steadily declined in pretty much every other subject this academic year.
That didn't stop him picking up six prizes at the Year 10 awards ceremony, this morning, though. Two were for Drama and RPE, the rest related to his musical activities. Plus he provided the music as parents arrived and left, as well as performing with another lad in the interval. (A brilliant performance of 'In A Sentimental Mood'.)
So, with his GCSEs, next year, there have been some (hopefully) supportive and (also hopefully) motivational chats. This evening, though, was an opportunity to celebrate, which we took in the garden behind Avanti. Over the years, I've usually watched this location from inside, through the restaurant's floor to ceiling windows, as it withstood yet another torrential downpour. Of late, though, it's been full of people basking in this unprecedented (for Kirkby Lonsdale) stretch of sunshine.
