Illustrious son of the town

Captain George Vancouver, chartmaker, navigator and explorer; mapped the west coast of America in 1778, and called in at a few other places too.

The Dutch style building behind is the former customs house but now enjoys the much less grand status of a tourist information centre. A few chains and anchors lie around the place to lend street cred.
