A view from Jeanneb

Ups and Downs

There are lots of them in Porto. This is the Ribeira of Porto taken from the top level of the Ponte de Dom Louis 1.
Quite hairy scary as it is the level that the metro trains use and there are no barriers between you and them! It was Chris's idea to go up there and he wasn't happy as you could see through in some places down to the river below.

We had walked down from the Cathedral (on the right of the picture) following the yellow arrows that denote the start of the Camino de Santiago from here. Blue arrows pointing the other way are for pilgrimages starting to Fatima to the south. After a coffee on the quay we took the funicular back up to be at the right level for crossing the bridge.
Having walked over and enjoyed the view we were then in Villa Nova do Gaia where all the Port wine lodges are to be found, so we took the Teleferico down to the quay. Our ticket included a free port tasting which was a nice preliminary to lunch in another great Mercado.
We returned to Ribeira via the lower, road part of the bridge and then had to climb all the way back up into the town.

Really pleased to have revisited this super city, Chris has enjoyed it too on his first trip here.

Fiesta or football, lots of street decorations which I think are probably for both!
