A tale of two cities
Had the most fantastic day. Prague definitely has two sides to it - more than any other city I've visited, there is a contrast between the seedy "Mr Hyde" tourist persona and the cultured, vibrant and chilled "Dr Jekyll" side.
We visited the Jewish museum and a number of synagogues this morning, the Spanish Synagogue in particular is quite stunning with its Moorish influences. Had apple cake and coffee in the Coffee Lovers cafe which has a brilliant room at the back for chilling in with dozens of vases of artificial flowers on sloping shelves. Then walked over the river to Lenka Park which is curious for the hundreds of shoes (mostly trainers) hanging from the cables above the old and now dismantled Stalin memorial.
Stopped again at the Cafe Valentino for late lunch - another lovely little place renowned for its pancakes. Then dropped in at the Czech Photographers Gallery for the stunning collection of war photographs by Goran Tomnasevic - some absolutely incredible combat photographs.
Walked back across Shooters Island and did some window shopping on the way - once you get away from the tourist areas there are some really nice shops and lots of galleries and bookshops.
Took the blip lying on the floor of one of Prague's churches - forgot to check the name - people thought I was mad but really ... does it matter? I'm on holiday and lying on your back on a marble floor in front of a bunch of strangers is really nothing when you are enjoying yourself so much ...
