Everyday I Write The Book

Bizarre

Had a lovely walk before getting up to the castle on the hill above Prague - very lucky with the weather again, mixture of sunshine, blue skies and cloud but not cold and no rain. The castle complex is huge and very strange in places - quite bizarre in fact, good if you like instruments of torture, contrived sub-Disney streets and a surfeit of cafes - but the cathedral is worth the climb and the money - quite fantastic.

Sought out the allegedly worth visiting Globe Cafe but it was pretty ghastly - horribly loud music and shrill young Americans and strangely - nay I must use the word bizarre again - the extensive menu was all eggs eggs eggs, which we didn't want. Tepid Irish Coffee too. Went 'round the corner to the also recommended Marathon Cafe which turbed out to be dodgy rather than edgy. It had had three students, one asleep and the others deep in conversation and a lot of grotty furniture. So - you guessed it - another bizarre encounter - at this point we gave up trying to find a nice place to chill, grabbed a fast food baguette and some coffee and went back to the hotel.

May give up on Rough Guide recommendations ...

Took this on the Charles Bridge - a romantic moment amongst the crowds - these last three days have been wonderful because we have been so happy together. But Prague, as I said yesterday, is a Jekyll and Hyde place - had a great time but wouldn't come back again without a good reason.

Booked a veggie restaurant for tonight - off for a soak in the tub now ... Footsore!

Postscript:

Went to Maitrea, a fantastic little vegetarian restaurant with a beautiful basement. Buddhist monks with no income eat for free - seriously, it says so on the menu. Lovely atmosphere, very good food, beautiful surroundings.
