Tiger face, Tamworth Co-operative Society store

This tiger face is a strange thing to include on this building. It does not really fit in with the rest of the design. I'm supposed to know a bit about terracotta but I'm not sure if this is stone or terracotta. I think I'll bet on its being terracotta though.
