Street in Lucerne
Looking roughly south along the Morgartenstrasse in Lucerne, Switzerland. We're on the 5th floor of our hotel, in the late afternoon, and a feeble sun has come ventured out after a rainy day. The day's outing was to the nearby Rosengart Collection. It's an excellent and quite personal assembly of art acquired by Angela Rosengart (now 86) and her father, who was a dealer in modern European art from the post-impressionists to the 1960's. My favorites were 125 watercolors, drawings and paintings by Paul Klee, from 1910 to his death in 1940; numbered discreetly on the side of the frames, they are hung precisely chronologically, with basic data in a modest brochure. A unique and marvelous experience for me as a lover of Klee. Picasso is also featured, including many photos of him by David Douglas Duncan. We also watched World Cup quarterfinals: France beat Uruguay, 2-0 (yippee!), and Belgium eliminated Brazil, 2-1.
