The dropped stitch

Brevik House

Not a good photo at all and it's really not an attractive building, but I wanted to record it before it disappears. The site is to be developed for housing, or a hotel was mentioned at one point.

Built in 1886 as the Shetland Combination Poorhouse, it could accommodate 72 people. Men and women lived in separate wings and there was a mortuary on site. It has a beautiful sea view but I think it must have been a pretty grim place to stay.
In 1920 it became the Zetland County Homes for the Chronically Sick, Aged and Infirm, which doesn't sound much cheerier!
From 1951, for the next 30 years, it was just the plain Brevik Hospital.
