Day 4

After breakfast we wandered down to the waterfront and got on a "Hop On - Hop Off" tour bus which took us up the hill (and Boy!, is it a hill) to Taormina - a very old and quaint town full of tourist tat shops balanced well by the expensive and the quality goods ones.

It was HOT, so we hid under cover to write postcards and drink beer.
Then it was more exploring and a light lunch - partaken of in a nice "off the main route" covered place which was much cooler.
We decided to leave doing the amphitheatre for another day - either early or late in the day when it should be cooler.

The heat haze was making Mount Etna a bit indistinct, but it was definitely there and smoking!

Late afternoon it was hop back on the bus and complete the circuit back to the hotel - just in time to take advantage of Happy Hour!

The barman will be getting a tip. The drinks were huge and he just kept putting down plates of canapes.
I think it helped that we were the only two people out there (again) …. and being polite to the staff - something that sees to be lacking from most of the other guests.
