Day 8 - Morning Has Broken
It was a bit busier at breakfast this morning and (let's call him "Mario") Mario the waiter was totally useless. He would take an order for tea or coffee and forget it faster than a goldfish forgets it is in a bowl. He would also half empty a table and never come back to finish the job. 3 times he came to pour my coffee ….. from an empty pot!
The waitress was completely overwhelmed.
The couple at the next table were rather surprised to find their coffee (which took ages to arrive) and their juice had gone when they came back from going to get some fruit (rookie mistake ….. both leaving the table at the same time).
It took so long for our tea and coffee to arrive we had given up hope and moved onto the fizzy wine and pastries.
The day was a lazy one spent at and in the pool followed by a siesta until the football came on. I am not a lover of football, but during The World Cup you have to support any of the National teams who are in it ….. and it was good to see England going through to the next round.
We went out for diner at a family owned & run place at the opposite end of the bay with great views back to the town as the sun went down and began to pick out the clouds and light up the statue over the road.
The place got very mixed revues on-line about prices, service, attitude of the staff …… the lot.
I had seen the place on our Hop On/Hop Off tour and thought it looked good.
What we found was a place the locals use (it is a bit far out for the tourists). The food was super - but super, the staff were there when needed but in no rush to move you on. When I went to pay (Mamma held the purse strings obviously) I asked about a taxi and the owner phoned one for us and refused to take money for the call or a tip for the staff (but we insisted). It was obvious that tips were certainly not expected or encouraged.
Then when we were standing waiting for the taxi, the owner came out to make sure we didn't miss the taxi.
An excellent end to our holiday.
