Lunchtime visitor
An uninvited guest arrived for lunch today and seemed determined to stay. No need to set a place at table, even though we were intending to eat outside.
No! This fella was content to munch away at whatever came into view. Firstly, the leaves from variegated ivy branches, then the leaves from an oak tree branch brought down by a passing truck in the roadway, even a few roses and then looked around to see what else was on offer.
The bright red flowers of geraniums in a planter? Or maybe the pink florets of the hydrangea shrubs? Fortunately there is a fence between it and our raspberries, not that that would necessarily pose any deterrent for a hungry deer on a mission..
Time to call it a day, and surprise, surprise it was ready to make off, back to nearby woodland, the moment it detected our movement. It stayed long enough to have its photo taken, albeit through the window, but clearly did not welcome the prospect of us getting any closer.
Cute, as a young deer, maybe but my fear is that having had the taste for vegetation in our garden, he or she might return early morning before we are up and about and enjoy a field day.
