Music and Dance

Considered going for an early evening drink today but soon discovered Romsey town centre was not the place for a quiet pint or two.

I hadn’t reckoned on the annual popularity of the town’s Beggars Fair which takes over the complete town. Pubs in the centre were packed and with a high summer afternoon, each one I visited was overflowing and like this one, the Tudor Rose, into the street as well.

Beggars Fair is a day of music, dance and street entertainment which gives opportunity for local musicians to provide a mixture of folk, jazz, blues, rock and even classical music in the streets and the pubs.

Big noisy bands dominated when I was there, but there was no doubting the following they were getting.
