Floods in Gauteng
This is the main intersection at the Northgate Shopping Mall in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
What a nightmare! We decided to go shopping in Johannesburg this morning, left home at about 10:30, a few drops of rain falling, but not serious looking weather at all.
We were about 15km from home when it really started pouring down and within a few minutes it was serious! We fortunately decided to go in the twin cab because we planned on buying a few big items. The car has low profile wheels and would not have made it!
The road in this picture is part of a three lane, double highway, which looked like a real river for many kilometres, the water flooding and making waves.
Friends told us tonight that they saw a Volvo, just like ours, covered in water as high as it's roof, in Pretoria this afternoon, so it actually seems like Pretoria had even more rain than Johannesburg.
