We're On The Road To Hana

Well after 18 years, and a bit, we fulfil a dream to take Ms H along The Road To Hana, and boy oh boy what a road. However we began the day, after we dragged ourselves out of bed, to get back in the sea at Napili, it was too good yesterday to leave without seeing it again - we had boogie boards and a rubber ring this time for added fun. Then we had breakfast and set off.

The Road To Hana is, apparently, very famous, a very scenic 52 miles drive from Kahului to Hana, the most easterly point of the island, and takes about 2.5 hours if you don't stop. However there are numerous places to visit on the way, we even got an app that narrates to you based on your gps location through the car stereo, i.e. when you are coming up to an attraction, it will tell you all about it. There are coach tours and other self-drive tourists that start the drive at 6am and it is extremely windy and often narrow so is very very busy. However, because we were playing in the sea so long, our journey began a good 8 hours after everyone else! We just occasionally met that traffic coming back on the single track sections.

Anyway, the extra blips show a few of the views we encountered, the rainforests are just lovely and so different to others I have seen, there are waterfalls a plenty. Most of the sea shore are made of lava rock instead of sand etc, and being so hard make waves so much more spectacular. We probably stopped at about a third of the things we wanted to, as we wanted to get to our hotel in daylight. We will visit some of the places we missed on Thursday.

We have a bungalow on the hotel grounds overlooking the sea and were driven to it on a wee buggy as they don't let cars on site. After our dinner we went for a swim in one of the outdoor pools before the jacuzzi. We were here to relax but I think we are going to be busy... I could stay 2 weeks here but we only have 2 nights :-(
