Butterfly walk

I’ve been on an organised butterfly walk with 4 other people today.  We saw white-letter hairstreaks and purple hairstreak, but as they fly about or rest high in the tree tops, I couldn’t get photos. We could see them through the binoculars and scopes though.

We also saw plenty of moths, but apart from the six spotted burnet moths in this collage, I am unable to identify any of them at present.

I was using the duff lens today and struggled with focus - constantly having to switch to manual and then back to auto focus or push and pull the zoom in and out. :-(

Butterflies spotted:

peacock

red admiral

comma

gatekeeper

grayling

small copper

meadow brown

common blue

purple hairstreak

white letter hairstreak

large white

I had never seen grayling before, but we found plenty of these on the sand dunes. A grayling is shown bottom right in the collage. The main purpose of the trip was to find the purple and white letter hairstreaks.
