Kelmarsh Hall and Holdenby House

I made use of my Historic Houses card twice today ; firstly visiting Kelmsrsh Hall which has recently benefited from Lottery Funding . The gardens were beautiful despite the drought but it was inside where it shone - stylish rooms reflecting the taste of an American woman Nancy Tree who was part of the Colfax and Fowler decorating company in the late 1920s and 30 s . There is also an interesting map of the Pytchley Hunt area by the brother of Eric Gill . http://www.kelmarsh.com/AboutUs/TheHall.aspx
In the afternoon we visited Holdenby Hall which was built in Elizabethan times by Sir Christopher Hatton to entertain Elizabeth 1 . We couldn’t go inside but the outside of the building is magnificent. There is also a replica of a 17th century farmstead built by The Sealed Knot .
