Silver-spotted skipper
What a week- Wood White on Monday, Grayling on Wednesday and now a newly emerged Silver-spotted Skipper - another rare species confined to chalk downs. When I set out on my butterfly odyssey it was generally agreed that there are 43 resident butterfly species in Sussex but then we discovered the Black Hairstreak and so my target moved from 43 to 44. The Silver-spotted skipper is my 43rd species, only the Brown Hairstreak to find now. I have managed to photograph all but one of the 43 species - the white-letter hairstreak still eludes me but it should be out for at least another week so I may still get one.
