Octopus Stinkhorn

Yesterday's adder took me by surprise but this morning's find was even more startling. The fungi Clathrus archerii (Devil's Fingers or Octopus Stinkhorn). Its the first time I've found one this early in the season - they tend to appear in early October - and this one was at a site where I've never seen them before.
