Oooh City Life!

France Dwellers son had lost his ID card and she suddenly realised it was probably her who had left it at the Plymouth library when photocopying it! She phoned the library first thing in the morning. It was only taking messages, and the email she sent got a response, saying she could expect an answer in 5 days! She contacted the French Consulate in Penzance - they can no longer issue ID cards and she could only obtain one from London 24 hours before they left the country! Feeling quite frantic she decided to go to the library and I decided to go with her - would only be there an hour I reckoned! We spent the whole day there!
Oh what joy to take photos of a city and people instead of hens and flowers! The city centre's old shopping area is quite shabby - a new mall has been built so many shops have  closed and many units taken over by charity shops. Plymouth was  the most bombed city in the blitz of WWII, two main shopping centres and nearly every civic building were destroyed, along with 26 schools, eight cinemas and 41 churches. However  some of the new buildings and historic ones which are not bombed are still beautiful, you just have to look for them! One of these is The old Barclays Bank, now a bar and restaurant called The Slug and lettuce! William McMillan designed the statues, this one of a firefighter or Arp warden, and the ones in extras are the 3 classical gods Ceres, Jupiter and Mercury. This is the last place we stopped for a quick bitter shandy! The rest of the days sights are here!
Before this we went to the library where much to her relief the ID card was retrieved! We then went shopping for trainers for her youngest son who came with us, who was mortified when she told the assistant she was paying for them! He had intended paying for them himself! We did several charity shops, Tiger, the Krispy Kreme stall and then went for lunch at The Boston Tea Party opposite the Barbican - where we saw the fishing boat called the Cornish gem coming in! We used the toilets in the Plymouth Gin distillery and with many other places we passed, decided we must return and do the historical parts of Plymouth!
We finally got home at 4 and went our separate ways - and after the lack of sleep the previous night we both had a nap! At 10 o'clock, just as I finished meditating my doorbell rang - French dweller was back to sleep in my spare bedroom once more! She shared my late supper, which we ate sitting in my garden with all my solar lights making it look most pretty! She retired to bed and 2 hours later so did I!
Another very lovely day and no anxiety and no squirly digestive system!  I'm on a roll!
