Good weather for sunflowers

My sunflowers have just started to come into bloom. This year I planted ones which grow shorter and are good for cutting to bring indoors. As you can see, they are a deep red colour.

Today felt marginally cooler than yesterday although it was still 28 degrees this afternoon. My evenings are taken up watering the allotment and trying to water as minimally as possible in the garden without plants dying on me. Even very well established shrubs are looking droopy and some plants have scorched leaves.

I read today that some research has estimated that, currently across the world, we produce enough food to feed the projected global population of 2050 - if we eat much less meat and increase our consumption of maize based foods. I'lll have to find out what foods you can create with maize (other than sweet corn and pop corn!).

Wishing you a cool and peaceful evening.
