Out with the boys
I accompanied Emma and her boys to a show a bit further afield today, Weston Lawns, about an hour or so away.
Jack was a bit slow to get himself sorted, although part of that is the lack of opportunity that they get to practise. The fields were either too wet or too hard this year. We hack out, but it’s not the same, so each show is like a re-training exercise.
Anyway, he did much better in his second class, but both horses were competing in that, and when there are only 9 entries altogether it’s a bit of a rush untacking one, tacking up the other swapping them over on the truck and then warming up Nelson!
Luckily, Nelson is a pro, needs minimal preparation other than a bit of a warm up to get him stretched, and then into the ring he went to win the class!
As there were only 3 entries in his next class, Emma decided not to jump him again. It was hot and there would be no prize money, so not much incentive to compete. We settled them both in after giving them a good drink of water, then had a portion of cheesy chips before heading home.
We took out two of the girls, sisters Roxy and Libby, for a hack around the fields, as Libby is new to this game and not ready for roadwork yet. She’s the third of the siblings ( Jack’s the middle child ) and seems to be the most laid back. The next generation has begun!
