Menelik Square

This is Menelik 2 square, in the upper Piazza area of historic Addis. The health centre which we will be working in is just off this square. There is lots of construction going on, which will change the character of the area, I'm sure. We had lunch in Castelli's which is supposed to be one of the nicest Italian restaurants in the area.

Today was our first full day observing at a health centre. Anj and I were both in adult oupatients for the day. She was with a GP and I was with a health officer. It seemed more like a walk-in clinic than a traditional family practice in Canada. Presenting problems varied, from one day of cough, to sore back, to severe cervical lymphadenopathy. Things seemed quite well organized. The staff were quite welcoming. We will continue to observe there for the next few weeks.
