Brigadoon in New York state

Chautauqua Institute, located in the southwest corner of New York State, is a magical place, which is why I refer to it as Brigadoon. Spend a day or two within the gates of Chautauqua, and you, too, might be captivated by the magic. "Chautauqua" refers to an adult education movement that has an interesting history. It harkens back to  the early to mid-19th century when the movement took hold and spawned a number of meeting places throughout the United States; locations where people would gather for educational lectures, religious services, and more. Chautauqua Institute in New York and the Lakeside, Ohio Chautauqua, both a short distance from our home in northeastern Ohio, are two of the best known remaining Chautauquas.
