Chuggers

The charity muggers or chuggers were out in town today. My policy, on anyone who attempts to sell me or beg from me in the street or doorstep, is either to feign deafness or politely say no without breaking my stride. If you hesitate, they seize the moment; in this case, the lady now has the task of extricating herself from the 'conversation'.

I have noticed recently that my well-practised 'grumpy old man look' is so successful that they avoid even speaking to me, whilst approaching everyone else around me. Far from feeling offended, I count this as a result!
