Local history
It was my lovely dad’s birthday today and we had a family meal at the Wheatsheaf. I particularly enjoyed the ‘broken lemon meringue pie’.
This shoe was found in the structure of the pub building in 1994 and dates back to the 18th century when it was deliberately placed in an inaccessible place for superstitious reasons. Concealed shoes, as they are known, have been so placed in buildings since the Middle Ages and there are examples as recently as the 20th century. More info on them here, if of interest.
