Local gin

Wildcraft brewery popped up on my Facebook feed a few days ago, and I followed the link to find out more about them.  I discovered that they are a local brewery, and also make gin.  I also found that they were going to be at a small fair of local food and drink firms in Old Costessey (pronounced Cossey) today.

We also needed to go out to try to source some lime juice.  Our local Tesco has run out (perhaps their own brand is made by Roses).  Luckily, at the Longwater Sainsbury store, we found some Robinsons Lime and Mint cordial - it is delicious, and has been promoted to our favourite cordial for a refreshing drink on these hot days.  Old Costessey is just down the road from Longwater, so we went on to the food fair afterwards.

Everyone at the little fair was very friendly, and we were tempted into spending more money than we should have, because we like to support small local businesses.  We bought a bottle of "bathtub" gin - so called because in the days of Prohibition, it was prepared in the bathtub because that was the largest receptacle in the house.  It is not distilled after infusing with the botanicals, which means it is not clear.  It's quite nice, but a little rough.  I'm not sure it is worth the price.

We also found another newly set up local firm selling gin, and couldn't resist a bottle of their product.   And we bought some tubs of beans and peas from another local manufacturer.

We've had a lazy afternoon, because neither of us slept particularly well, and we're tired.
