Utopias Tasting
It was the Samuel Smith Utopias tasting night at Elizabeth Station. Twenty dollars a pop for two ounces, but my sister made me do it -- not that I needed a lot of encouragement. There were more tasters than you see here -- Leah only wanted to photograph the handsome guys.
The beer didn't taste a lot like beer, but that wasn't surprising. Each of of the various kinds of barrels that had been used to age portions of the blend contributed their flavors -- Muscatel, Madeira, Sherry, brandy, Cognac, Scotch whisky, bourbon, and rum. Then there's the 28% alcohol.
I enjoyed Utopias, but I won't be putting down $200 for a bottle.
