Twenty-One Today

My grandson Luis is twenty-one today and is a fine young man. Born in Plymouth he grew up in Barcelona after moving when he was two but returned to Cornwall last year when his fathers work brought him back.
A skilled footballer who played at a good level in Barcelona he is great to be around, kind, loving and fun.

So if Luis is twenty-one today that means that twenty-one years ago I was almost 8,000 miles away in the Falkland Islands.
At the time Luis was born I was at a formal military dinner for around 100 SNCO’s, the announcement that; “we have a new grandfather amongst us” cost me cigars, champagne and/or port for 100.
